Backroads officially online

Well, it’s been a long time in the making. Many sleepless nights and hours of hard work have been spent. I am proud to announce that the time is here, and Backroads Photography is finally online.

It’s strange that something which started off as a hobby years ago, has now become something bigger and better than what it was initially. I feel that I really need to thank my friends who encouraged me, family members who believed in me, and a Mom and grandfather who both shared a love of photography.

Thanks, Mom.

Thanks, Grandpa.

As I was making ready to put the site online I was thinking…what better way is there to kick off a new site than to have a contest?

You can learn about the contest on the site HOMEPAGE or start off your visit from the INDEX page which will then take you to the homepage right after clicking the first image. And yes, that is a photo of me ‘pretending’ to be a photographer.

Please let me know what you think of the site.

  3. The site is awesome. Am I seriously supposed to choose ONE picture I like best? Impossible. I can say I like all the pictures with windmills. I love the beach sunset. All of the old barn pictures are amazing, too. If I had to choose one right now, it would probably be Old Barn Sunset(or Nobody Home or Bunkhouses or Empty Home) And the alphabetographyy is AWESOME.

  4. Loved looking at the pictures, especially the wild flowers, the tree growing out of the rocks, and, well they were all great. Gerb sent me here to take a looksee. I'm so glad she did.

  5. My favorite is rustE.

    Gerb sent me.

  6. Congratulations, Jason! Your website is absolutely beautiful, and your hard work will pay off in big ways. I am sure of it. It was worth enduring that rainy weekend at Sundance's Harvest Market to meet you and Shawna. I cannot choose one of your photos I love especially; I love so many of them. But if forced to choose, I will pick "Forgotten" and "Green." You've got a great eye and great technique. Now, I will do everything I can to promote you. All the best to you!

  7. WOW! Amazing!
I love all of the pictures. You are very talented. I can't really pick one picture, but the "October" picture sticks in my head. I don't know if it is because it is fall, and the leaves in the picture remind me of my grandma's yard. She had a ton of leaves. That is the only place I ever remember playing in and burrying myself in leaves! The "Windmill" pic was beautiful as well. I can't pick just one!
Good job Z! Absolutely Brilliant work!

  8. Hello!!

So far, I LOVE the family portraits, it would be nice of you to fly out to the remotest border of AZ and do ours for us. Yep, that sure would be nice. Seeing as that won't happen, I shall admire from afar all the great picts you have taken, my favorite being "Childhood" taken in Washington County (I think). I also like "Red, Red, Red". Your site is very nice and your blog is great also. Just thought I'd let you know....

BTW, GERB SENT ME OVER HERE. The 70's style shots you took of her family were GREAT!! Oh, the others were nice too, but with all those folks in all that 70's-ness in the old car and whatnot....GREAT!

  9. WOW! Jason, it looks great. You make picking a fav too hard. They are all really great pictures. I don't know how long I spent on there today, but it comes down to #1 Salt Lake Temple, and #2- Timpanogos 2. I think you may be getting a call from us soon. Hope you stay busy.

  15. I love the family shot of Gerb looking like a model with her husband holding her sweet little baby in the background. :)

    Gerb sent me, obviously.

I actually love the Alphabetology. I love how easy it is to play with the letters in my name on your site. (Narcissistic? Maybe.)

  16. Oh my goodness.........I am at a loss for words.

You've truly taken my breath away.....

My fav's in no particular order (what's with the rule of picking just ONE!??!)

    *Deserted
    *Alone
    *Flowers at my window
    *Empty Barn

Each of them made me feel like I looked out a huge window and that's what I saw.....It was a good feeling :)

This must be a happy weekend for you! Halloween and then the launch...fabulous!

  17. Website looks great, just took a quick browse. I saw your comment on my blog, I must respond by saying that you too are somewhat notorious for "slipping in and out of my life." Alas, so goes friendship, but its nice to still keep in touch here!

Oh, and I must tell you that mom is a little miffed at the non-explanation of the strange Christmas card you sent. She asks every so often about how you are doing. I e-mailed you but never got a response.

Anyway, congrats on the website, it looks great, or as you might have said years ago, "COOL BEANS."

  18. I love the red barn and the October leaves. Very beautiful photography.

Gerb sent me. I hope she picks out something nice :)

  20. Love the sight, Gerb sent me. You are an amazing photographer. You have a great eye for beauty in everything!I think the picture I like the most is the one of Gerb's family looking through the windshield of the old car. I also really like the picture of the aspens, can't remember the exact name.

  21. WOW! This is one of the best sites for photography that I have seen. My personal favorites would half to be the few shots with lighting strikes in them they are dazzling. Great Job! Keep it up.

    ReplyDelete
  22. My personal favorite is the one of me...oh wait. I'm only half kidding, it's really the best picture anyone has ever taken! I'm really proud of you and the site looks great. I don't know who Gerb is but I'm really hoping my friends hurry up because I want a print (what about the car picture??? I want that one!)

  23. Hi Emily, I'm Gerb. I'm a semi-crazy mother of 9 who occasionally does a little sign language interpreting. I like to bake. I read way too much. I am one of those people who could not live without music (but I wish they would hold off on the Christmas music until after Thanksgiving.) I love finding grammatical and spelling errors and correcting them with a fat, red pen, and it is driving me crazy that I spelled alphabetography with 2 y's in my last comment. Nice to meet you.

  24. WOW! I can see why it took soooo long to get your site up- it's fabulous!

I like how the portraits move and a click enlarges it- very cool.

As if anyone could pick a favorite!
So here's today's fav. picks: The bride- you capture beauty and the happiness of the moment in one shot. I love "window to tommorow". The contrast is amazing. The 3D effect is almost surreal.
Q: "A minimum of $250 purchase is required (not including cleanup or setting fees) for each session." So at least $250 needs to be spent-in sitting fee and picts?

  25. Hello Mr. Z--I'm a total stranger (except for hearing your awesome story at Pack Meeting). I really like your photos. I very much enjoyed "Evening Comes" and "Desert Truck" but not to leave out "Journey to Heaven," "Ancient Window" and "Window to Tomorrow." It's hard to stop there. I also like that semi-crazy mom of 9 who better narrow her choice of favorite prints who sent me. Much success to you!

  26. I love your work. Thank you for sharing your talent! I'd have a hard time choosing one of your nature pictures, they're all so good.

BTW, Richard (Rich) sent me. :)

  27. Let's just start with "Gerb sent me!"

You do great work. I loved them all. I love how you capture the children doing what they do in their home environment. That is what we want to remember. I usually like pictures that I relate to the most, and since I haven't been to many of those sites (though I love the look), I am going to pick the picture of the Salt Lake Temple as my favorite.

  28. Gerb sent me.

Your website looks great, and your photography looks even greater!

My favorites include, but are not limited to: Empty Barn, Aspen Road (I would love to see it in a Sepia tone), Castledale, and Doors to Places. I also love any of flowers. I used to work as a florist, so I love anything related to flowers. Keep up the good work!

  31. Mr Z, Where do you find the time to be such an amazing teacher, creative writer and fantastic photographer? Your site is awesome! I'm so glad you shared it with me. I'll be sure to pass along the link because it's just too good not to share it with everyone I know. It will be hard to name just one photo as my favorite so I'll list one from each group. I LOVE Nobody Home, Evening Sunflower, The World, Desert Truck and I love alphabetography.

  32. Hey Gerb! Nice to meet you. I'd be a totally, officially declared insane mother if I had 9 children so I commend you :) I love music, and I'll admit I started listening to FM 100 with Christmas music last week. I love to bake, too, and I think we definitely agree that Jason is awesome :) I'm a nurse, wife, student and mom to a pom dog and a really, really fat white cat.

  36. This is my first visit to any photographer's website, and I have been so impressed by the avenues of expression I've seen here. I've enjoyed everything from the "alphabetography" to the portraits, to the life sessions that capture a child's day, to the prints (especially the architecture entries that bring back memories).

If I had to select a favorite picture, it would be "The Empty Barn", simply because it transports me back about 50 years to my grandpa's farm.

  37. Beautiful and artistic. My favorite of what I've seen is Mt. Timpanogos 2007. Wow. Thanks to Annette E. for the referral to this site.
