Stephanie asked us to take a photo of how we get ready for school. I don't think that this was what she intended, but I decided to show some of what needs to be done before a regular year...

I have a question. What are the rules when it comes to blogging with your school? Or whatever district you are in?
I know you don't have the same confidentiality laws that I have, as a social worker, but I've read a lot of articles about teachers and blogs, and was curious about you and Cheeseboy.
Looks a lot like what I did last week but had hubby help me. Is it bad of me to want to give you the signs for the words you spelled out? Also loved your 'g' and 'h' sign. It's backwards to how we sign it here which made it all that more interesting to me.
So cool! I like your business cards and it's great that you have your kids learn sign language. 5th grade- that's a big step and breathing is important. ;)
You're left handed? I knew there was a(nother) reason you were so awesome!
Love the photos! Do you teach your kids sign language? One of the teachers on our other team is getting a deaf student and she/he will have a Ta with him.
I so wish that my boys would have had teachers like you. We got lucky most years, but your photos speak volumes about how you prepare and the experience your students are likely to have.
I love it when you do “A Day in Photos”. It must be so exciting getting ready even though it’s hard/time-consuming work. I love your classroom. The propeller rocks!!! What’s the No Talking & 6 Inch Voices-Move from seat if necessary?

K - Not using students' names along with their photos or images without permission from their parents.
N - Being a southpaw has it's draws, doesn't it?
J - Yes, I teach them basic sign. They like it, and I really should do a lot more.
Y - The propeller used to be my grandpa's. As for the 'warnings' they go with the traffic light in my classroom. The class president decides just when he (or she) thinks they need to switch up the light when the class is getting too loud.
S & C - The photos were all (with the exception of the last three) taken with a tripod and self-timer. I usually compose the shot and then get into it. It's a lot of work to do A Day in Photos, but it's fun, too.
I loved this post! I'm getting excited for the first day, too. We have 2 more weeks.
2 of my 4 kiddos are lefties...and they are awesome! It must come with the territory.
I am so sad elementary school is behind us. My youngest had a most awesome 5th grade teacher last year, too. I've just come to realize I'm philosophically opposed to middle school. I wish we had a K-8 here.

I am impressed!. Wow, u really go all out.. btw, do u have to strip down your walls every summer? The teachers I use to work w/would ask me to help them strip their walls for the summer.. So, will this be your semester of the 'challenge' students?
Wouldn't it be nice if a teacher's day was only 8 to 3? So much out of class and in-class after school work goes on. Your classroom is awesome! Love the sign language to welcome the students. Love the 6 inch Voice and love that you visit your students! Good luck and have fun. (I'm sure your students will.)

I just found your blog through Tiburon's blog. I lived in Huntsville, UT about 13 years ago. Loved the area. I consider myself a native to Colorado, but mountains are mountains. I live in Kansas City now, and there are certainly no mountains around here.
While I am quite famous for never commenting, I wanted to let you know I am enjoying your writing and photography. Next time I'm in SLC I certainly hope there will be a blogger lunch I can crash.

These photos are so amazing. It reminds me of my mom when she would prepare her room for fourth grade every year for 20 years while I was growing up. You're such an awesome teacher - super cool and creative it seems like :)
Seriously? I'm looking at this post and getting all teary. Stupid? Yup. But I'm typing through bleary eyes nonetheless.
I drove to my son's school to meet his teacher and get comfy with the school 3 days before school started and I thought I was at the wrong classroom when I walked up to it. The room was dark. There was a huge jumble of desks and chairs in the center of the room. The names on the cubbies were from last year - I recognized them.
I was sad.
So it's nice to know that some teachers care. That YOU care.

I love this, I'm a teacher in the UK and we go back to school next week. Teachers are in for 2 training days Wednesday and Thursday, and the kids come back at staggered times on the Friday. I work at a Secondary (Middle and High) School and if anyone has any questions about education in the UK, please let me know.
Awesome pictures! With my mom working as an educator and now my oldest enrolled in Kindergarten, I can definitely appreciate all that goes into getting ready for back to school. Loved this post!! Good luck this year - i can imagine your kids love having you as their teacher!
