Many of you have undoubtedly heard of the death of a historical landmark here in Provo. I don't wish to reiterate here, other than to say that standing there in the midst of the fray gave me a feeling something akin to being sucker-punched in the stomach. To see a beautiful, old building be consumed by flames is a loss for us all…
I apologize in advance for the graininess of the photos. I didn't bother to take my tripod and shot these at a higher ISO than I normally would have.
It always saddens me when these old buildings are destroyed. Hopefully they will be able to restore it back to it's glory.

I'm so glad you went and took pictures. We ate at Los Hermanos today with some family that were in town and I was so saddened to watch it sit and smolder across the intersection. Such a devastating loss of such a beautiful building.

ReplyDeleteso heartbreaking. I can't even imagine Univ. Ave. w/out the Tabernacle. My husband and I were driving past last week and talked about how it is, now was, the most beautiful building in Provo. I've been teary about it all day. Your photos are outstanding... your description of feeling sucker punched is spot on. It's just so tragic.

It's unbelievable and heart breaking that a landmark as beautiful as the Provo Tabernacle could be destroyed!

Not sure as of yet what caused the fire. I have heard rumors of this or that, but I don't think anything is established yet. I do know that they plan to see if it can be salvaged and restored. However, if there's too much damage structurally, they'll have to demolish it.

So sad to see this. You got some amazing photos. I'm sure the Church would be interested in having copies.

Your pictures of it are beautiful. The first really ripped it to shreds---but seeing the shell of the building against the sky is raelly lovely. Bittersweet, I guess.
That's so sad!!! Will they rebuild it? I wonder how it started....

I hadn't heard about this. I used to play in the parking lot; my friend's grandma lived across the street. It really was a beautiful old building.

Beautiful photos! Did you see the one of the picture of Jesus Christ that the only part of the picture that didn't burn WAS Jesus? It was amazing!
