Makes Me Smile #5 - Warm Copies

I was fortunate this year to get a printer placed in my classroom. This is a wonderful thing simply because it saves me vast amounts of time walking from one end of the school to the other.

This past Friday my class was finishing up a writing assignment as I printed up their Weekly Evaluations. As I lifted these pages out of the printer, the warmth emanated from the paper to my fingertips. I held the copies close to my chest. The warmth of these crisp sheets flowed through me like sunlight on a winter’s day.

Warm copies from the printer make me smile.

  2. Do you remember the smell of purple ink copies? A childhood memory that puts me right back in the second grade.

  3. This reminds me of a short snippet of The Office. Almost makes me miss my days as a receptionist (supreme copy maker), almost.

  4. @Vanessa: I remember those purple ink copies!.. I remember when the teacher would staple them and hand them out and they were still a bit moist from the run-off... Dang, I think we just dated ourselves!. Also remember how we all held them up to our noses and breathed in...lol..

  5. I'm with Vanessa, loved the smell of blue ink copies fresh from the ditto machine ;o) Problem with a copier machine in your classroom is everyone around you will be using it during the most teachable moments ;o)

  6. I was thinking what Vanessa said. I loved when my teacher brought in fresh warm copies. We'd all sniff them.

  8. But just think of how many calories you'd be burning walking from one end of the school to the other and how much more cheese cake you could eat!! :D I mean. It was totally worth the side ache I got getting off the couch, walking into the kitchen and back, just for that bag of Dorito's.

  9. I'm of the purple ink generation too. I can still smell them. Why is that such a happy memory I wonder?

  12. I like paper straight from the printer for about 3 seconds, then it starts to go cold. Kinda reminds me of my dating life...

  13. It is the little things, isn't it? Personally, those walks to the printer are the highlight of my day. Especially when i get all the way down there and realize I forgot to hit print.

  14. T has a very good point ~ I prefer most things warm too...and admittedly, I feel and sniff the copies that come out of my dinky little HP all-in-one....not quite as fulfilling as big copy machine warmth, but it serves its purpose just the same.

  16. I can't completely relate, but I do remember putting my clothes into the dryer that was right outside the bathroom so when I was done showering, I could pull out the warm clothes and put them right on. Ahhhhhh. Sweet pleasures, my friend.
And congrats on the printer. I can only imagine the convenience!

  18. you are so lucky... I know a few teachers who would love to have printers in their rooms. instead of running to the work room to pick up their copies.

  20. I agree. Warm copies are so soothing! But (and I'm going to seriously date myself here), do you ever remember making copies on a mimiograph? I only did it once, as a 9th grader helping out my teacher. You had to run the paper through this machine with some sort of solution in it, and they would come out really cold. It was somehow also very thrilling to get these chilled copies from the mimiograph. Funny! I guess anything but plain old room temperature copies is a big hit with me!

  21. Everyone is focusing on the warmness of the paper and I am totally jealous that you got a laser printer in your classroom! :)
I do love the warmth of the copies, but I don't get to experience very often because I am hiking through the school to get them and they are stone cold by the time I get to them...
Some guys have all the luck (anyone singing the song yet?)
    Thanks for making me smile!
