Moments with Joey - License to Drive

SCENE 1, INTERIOR. AFTERNOON, CLASSROOM. The class has left for the day; the teacher is packing up his items to go. As he slides his computer into the case, a fifth grade boy ‘drives’ around the classroom on the teacher’s wheeled chair. He is making vrooming noises as he does so.

JOEY: Are you driving home tonight, Mr. Z?

TEACHER: Yep.

JOEY: You know, if you wanted, I could drive you…

TEACHER: Wouldn’t you need a license to drive, Joey?

[The boy grins].

JOEY: Oh, I’ve got a license, Mr. Z.

TEACHER: Really?

JOEY: Yep, I got it when I was ten.

TEACHER: A license for what?

JOEY: Driving you crazy.

[Pause].

TEACHER: Yeah, isn’t that the truth…

[Fade to black].
