It could always be worse

Pin It Did you ever have one of those times when you were feeling bad for yourself and then saw someone who was worse off than you? That’s exactly what happened to me tonight…I was walking along the train tracks and had crossed over the river on the trestle to take a few photos. When I was on my way back I noticed a tent down near the river amongst the bushes and trees…hidden away from the people driving on the road just to the other side of the railroad tracks.

As I looked down at this man who was calling this place home, I suddenly felt very fortunate and blessed in my life. Yes, I may have things in my time here on Earth which aren’t the greatest, but there is always someone else who has it harder than I do. I do need to count my blessings…

I had the opposite experience. My friend was hoping her daughter would be something girly for Halloween, but she insisted on being a ninja. Then my 8-year-old, Allaboy, asked me if he could be a princess.

And he was serious.

Yes. So true.

Gerb,

You're kidding, right? I'll be really bummed out if Allaboy wanted to be a princess and then finally had to content himself with being me...

Well...he tried on a princess dress and really looked cute in it, according to his older siblings. He did ask if he could be a princess, but more to get a reaction out of mom - and not with the same enthusiasm as when he asked to be you.

He was even happier when he got to do it again the next day for pictures!

gerb--i have to say that it's hard to beat the princess but...i alone have had to accept responsibility for teaching my 3 year old exactly what going commando is...AND had to broker deals on the rules...not to bed, not to school, and not to church...AND explain to my mom that, not only does he know what it means, but he will do it "forever tuz he lubs it."

Gerb,

Thanks for clarifying...it makes be breathe out an audible sigh of relief. I still have to get that posting up about Halloween too. I've been working on it, but it isn't quite right yet.

Jacs,

I'm glad that there are some ground rules about going commando in your house (well, for going in public, anyway).
