I dare you...

Pin It I have a friend. No really, I do. She is doing this amazing thing…for the next while, she is going to leave a comment on every blog that she reads.

Really.

Not meaning that she necessarily agrees with what the blogger has said, but she is planning on making her presence known. I won’t parrot everything she said because that would be redundantly redundant, and let’s be honest, you could just go here and read all about it.

So, here’s what I plan to do.

If I come to your blog for the next two weeks or so, every time I read a post of yours, I will make a comment.

Really.

Every.time.I.read.

I promise.

Would you do the same? For each post that you read? Wherever it is? No matter whose blog?

Why would I ask this? Well, let’s be honest, there are moments and times when we do really wonder whether or not somebody is really out there and really reading what it is that we are writing. Like Gerb said, everybody loves a comment, and nobody has ever gotten upset that somebody left a comment on their blog (unless of course the comment was rude, upsetting, or one which insults all we hold near and dear).

So, just to let you know…if I visit you, you’ll know it.

I hope that you’ll do the same.

I triple dog dare you...

Hehehehe! I love the picture! The Christmas Story...

I already do, usually :) I figured people might get tired of hearing from long winded me... (my family joke about it, perhaps I'll blog about a recent incident). But, honestly, who doesn't like to get a comment?

OK :D

Gerb said...

Cool... so now I guess I'll know if the people who commented here actually went and read my post and left a comment, eh?

This is fun. =0)

I jumped off a bridge once because of a dare, and you don't think I'd take this one?! HA!

Richard & Natalie said...

Okay, Mr. Trendsetter. I will follow in your footsteps.

Rich said...

I like that idea...I'll do it too! :)

Cari said...

Cole and Scott re-enacted that picture for a campaign poster once (but it wasn't freezing. They do have a little common sense -- a little!). I wish I still had it. Makes me laugh every time.

Like Corine, I try to leave a comment every time I read someone's blog. Guess it's the educator in me, we ALWAYS have to leave a comment somewhere! So the double dog dare is on!

Just SO said...

I try to leave comments on a regular basis but I have slacked off a bit.

I'll take that challenge!

J - I knew you couldn't resist a challenge! Rock on.

A - Welcome, Amanda. Have you seen, "My Summer Story" perchance? It's a continuation of "The Christmas Story" and is a pretty fun little movie as well.

C - Everybody loves a comment; well, at least I know that I do. You'll know when I come to your blog, girl.

G - Wow, you are the queen of trends, Gerb. You making waves like this in the ponds of tranquility

Do it again with something else...

K - I knew I could count on you.

N - To the north, dirty dishes.

C - Why does that not surprise me? The creativity of those "H Boys" never ceases to shock or cause wonder.

In fact, the other day I had Jake "read" a story to my class which I recorded him reading in 6th grade. My class was floored upon listening to him read it and there was a mad rush to the library to get the book he'd read. He's still the most popular kid in my class.

B - True about the comments, students' journals are the place where I always try to leave comments and it can be quite the time-consuming project. However, I know that for most of them, it's a treat.

S - You and I both. I, too, have been a slacker on and off lately. I read people's blogs, but then they have no idea that I've been there or that I'm even reading.

For at least two weeks, I AM going to do better...

Linn said...

I'm on it. Now I'm off to comment on Gerb's post. Especially because I have been reading her blog for the last few weeks and have never posted a comment. BUSTED!

Linn said...

PS. That picture just makes me happy. And sick to my stomach. At the same time.

Just had to read this again. It sort of makes me feel popular...

I'm here, this is my comment.

Both you and Gerb are SOOOOOOO popular!

Ousting all the blog stalkers that you find on your site-meter? Nicely done. Thoroughly enjoy your blog!

And to think that I just explained to my children the other day about the importance of making good choices and not worrying about what someone dared them to do... but instead to stand on their own two feet and 'dare' I say it... 'dare to do right'! But I totally love the idea... had to link over to GerbsRandomThoughts and then subsequently comment there also...

I actually began blogging just over a year ago because I felt that I shouldn't just lurk on others blogs, although I enjoyed it immensely, without putting my own thoughts out there for them to lurk back on. And I do await comments on some posts more than others... it's that neediness to feel like it was worth the time and effort I guess.

But I enjoy your blog... often chatting with Sparky/Graton and mentioning something you've recently blogged only to chastise him for not being more up to date!!

And this is why I rarely comment... I simply lack the ability to be succinct!

Really? Truly? Cuz I'm thinking how in the heck did the world get so small?

Matthew comes home from school and tells me about a Mr. Z who he says is really cool by the way and after today I'm thinkin' that ya, Mr. Z is pretty darn cool.

Mr. Z says something about reading my blog.....I apologize....anyone who reads my blog needs to be apologized to cuz well......you've read my blog. Nuff said....it's terrifying.

I have a friend named Misty Cox. Uh huh....see where I'm going? She wrote a post the other day on this blog called......Four Perspectives...or something like that. I read her post....and then I saw the contributors to the blog and saw a photo.

Natalie Parke says Mr. Z and I are both bloggers. Really? I look on Natalie's blog for a possible Mr. Z blog. I open a blog that looks like it might be his and......there's that photo again! I remember seeing that photo when I read Misty's post on "that blog"......

Small world! Thank you again Mr. Z for your help today. You can bet your bahootie I'll be blogging about the experience.

Bee said...

You're on:)

April Annie said...

Ok you caught me. I am an avid reader of your blog, Gerb's and the fourperspectives. I adore you all. I don't leave comments because I feel I have nothing to say that you haven't already said. Like my words will detract from your awesomeness.
But, here I am leaving a comment.
:)

L - Sorry to have completely blown your cover...but now you have a new friend, right? Totally worth it in the end.

ME - Glad you're in. I've missed hearing from you over the past while. Congrats again on your achievement! You are amazing...

G - Sort of?

L - I'm glad to know that you're still around. I will make myself known again to you as well whenever I come by; truly.

G - I don't know about that...I am glad to know that you stop in on occasion. Every time I see Ashley I just can't believe that she is really a senior; time goes far too quickly.

L - Well, it was really Gerb's idea; I just kind of stole it. I'm glad to have finally 'met' you. Just wondering, how did you ever find your way here?

J - I give all of the glory to Gerb, it is all her.

N - Any friend of 'Sparky' is a friend of mine...I sure do miss him and the days we had at Centennial Apts.

BTW, I tried to find your blog through your comment but I can't find it; I'd love to check it out, that is, if it's okay with you.

M - Rock on!

R - The only problem I have with Matt is the fact that I unfortunately didn't get him in my class this year. As for the 'event' today, I didn't do anything that you yourself (or anyone else) wouldn't have done. Levi is a great kid. I love seeing him in the halls.

BTW, it is a small world (just don't start singing the song, okay? Went on that ride one time too many...).

E - I keep waiting to get an update on your life, girl! I have been wondering what you've been up to! (I'm not really a good follower of Facebook, if you haven't noticed yet).

A - I had no idea. I'm totally flattered, too. Thanks for finally leaving a comment; now that I know you're out there, I'm planning on stopping by...

;)

I need a reward....like a Maple Bar for doing well with this! I'll pay for the goods and shipping :)

I read this earlier, and wanted to think about it as I perused the blogs of others....it felt GREAT to leave comments, where so often I try to hurry through and think "I'll leave a comment next time"...don't put off till tomorrow what you can today, right?!

annette said...

Ah- now I feel inspired- I must take the time to post again- sometime this weekend.

A great idea.

annette said...

The picture reminds me of a dare you put to a bunch of 4-6th grade kids a few years back. Good thing no one came down w/strep.

Amanda said...

T-Thanks! I haven't heard of "My Summer Story"; I will have to look it up :D

L said...

Random question slash observation, how do your commenters know who you are referring to when you respond to comments? For instance in your last response you listed in your response three L's and one would think they probably went in order but I am pretty sure the response that refers to me is the first.

I am a curious one sorry!

Teachinfourth said...

S - I had one about two weeks ago, pure heaven! I agree with 'burning through the blogs' and how much quicker it goes. When I stop to make comments on all of them, it takes quite a bit longer, however, I know that it is much more appreciated.

A - I would have thought you were dead, only I see you once a week at crossing duty. It would be good to know what is up in your world. BTW, it was nice to see you today. Sorry we were busy...every day is so crammed full that we never have time for anything.

A - It is really worth watching. For some reason, it really reminds me of a blog in parts.

L - I do go in order...I probably should type out whole names shouldn't I? I guess I have gotten lazy over time and this has become kind of the way I've gone about commenting. But you can always look at it this way...you can claim EVERY one with an "L" to it and it's like you're getting BUNCHES of responses?

Yeah, I guess that's pretty lame, isn't it? I probably should change my ways.

L said...

No sense in changing your ways. Definitely not lame. I wouldn't alter either but I am a stubborn one. Your blog your rules.

If that is the case on the "L's" being in reference to me and the third "L" was specifically mine...lets see....How did I ever find my way here? The story is a long one...perhaps too long to post as a comment.

Amy said...

I totally agree with you! If I read it, I leave a comment.

Teachinfourth said...

L - I saw that I got an email from you; I'm anxious to solve the mystery.

A - It does take a little bit longer, but I know that people do appreciate it.

Welcome to the 'comment club!'

birdeeb said...

Yeah I usually leave comments & if it's a blog I haven't been to before I go all the way back to the beginning and read through...BUT there are times I can't comment on all...but I try ;o) I love comments & thank you for all of yours ;o)

I started laughing at the picture it brought back memories of living in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada as a child. On our first cold day they would tell us on the morning announcements not to stick our tongues to anything! LoL
Oh by the way here is my challenge acceptance :o)

Ashley said...

Since you posted a dared... I just wanted to tell you that I love your blog. I discovered it linked from a friend of a friend's blog and I've been a follower ever since.

Kudos on coaxing all of us stalkers out of the closet! And while I'm confessing, I'll confess that it's hard to decide which is more beautiful in a lot of your posts: the words or the pictures. You are truly talented.

Teachinfourth said...

B - Well, I did make a promise for the next two weeks...Like I said in another reply to a comment, it is a lot more work and it's time consuming, but it is a lot more fun and I know that it is appreciated.

Thanks for keeping on coming back.

M - Rock on! It is a lot of work, but so worth it in the end. You lived in Canada? I've been there a few times, but only once around the winter(ish) time...it was awfully cold up there. However, it was beautiful as well.

A - Thanks for taking p the challenge. I knew if I threw out the 'triple-dog dare' it would probably work. I'm glad you enjoy it here...for awhile, I was just wondering if my family and a few friends were my only readers. Thanks for coming back.

J - Thanks for slipping out of the shadows; really it was all you. You could have simply ignored the dare and gone on living your regular life, however, I'm glad that you didn't. Thanks for the compliment, I'm glad you like it here; I'll try to keep posting things which are 'blogworthy.'

I'll have something else about NY once I get the video uploaded to YouTube later tonight.

J - It has been forever! I had no idea that you now had three kids either...

Man, am I behind the times.

I love giving and receiving comments...if I'm not commenting, it's because I'm super-busy and haven't found time to read. Then I'll play catch up with a week's worth of posts at a time--not always the best way to do things, but sometimes the only way. :)

Bring it on!

I'm a sucker for dares... your on!

K said...

Yes. Something I already do. Lots of women here read you. My married daughter thinks you're adorable. Prince Charming teaching 4th grade? Hmmm.

Teachinfourth said...

L - I totally understand that; however, when I have to play 'catch up' it really does take a lot of time in which to do it. Then I usually don't comment as much as I could/should.

T - I knew that I could count on you, Trev!

K - I am still trying to figure out where exactly where the 'here' is that you mentioned in your comment; I can only assume that it is someplace wonderful.

As for the Prince Charming thing...he might be teaching 4th grade; as for the troll under the bridge, I teach 5th.

Carrilyne said...

Well I guess I have to show my face... Even though I hate to be a follower! :0) Isn't it funny... If you don't leave comments, you won't get comments... And we all know comments are the bread of life to a blogger!
I will have to check back more often now that Natalie has introduced me to your blog...

Teachinfourth said...

C - Thanks for stopping by. You are so right when it comes to comments; when people make them, it makes you want to write a little more...it's all about feeling appreciated and noticed. I still have about 9 more days of commenting yet...it's a lot more time-consuming than I would have thought at first, but I think it's worth it in the end.

Amy said...

This post drew me in because of the picture from one of my favorite movies ever, I still belly laugh every time we watch that movie.
But your thoughts are so true. Comments = love and every blogger wants them.
Kind of comforting to know that even guy bloggers get a bit blue when no one is leaving comments on their blog.
Good idea!

I think I'm from that "here" that K refers to. (I think I know who K is) Where a little boy rested on a beautiful green piece of grass. And because I've been going in circles reading linked blogs, I know that you might get a kick out of this:

Squaring a binomial isn't hard to do.
Square the first and square the last and then here's what you do.
You times the first by the last and multiply by two.
You times the first by the last and multiply by two.
(Sung to the tune of It's a Small World.)

Am I right that you teach math?

Teachinfourth said...

YFH - One does like to know that what they are writing is being read by someone...

Thanks for letting me know that you are one of them!

KV - Wow, I feel that there is an awful lot of 'cloak and dagger' going on and I'm not even going to try to figure it out...much too late for anything along that nature.

As for Math? Yes, I teach that as well as just about every other subject one could hope to teach in the fifth grade...

Green grass? I think of one kid who recently did that and can only take a guess at who it could be. Ah well, like I said before, it's late.

B - Now I wonder just who that 'loyal' person was...ah well, thanks for leaving a comment and letting me know you were here. Glad you enjoyed your time, hope it was well spent.
