%&@! on Earth - The Letter

August 6, 2010

To whom it may concern,

I came into your dealership last night to see a car that I like. I enjoyed the company of your salespeople, Reid especially has been both fun and personable. However, after talking to some of your salespeople, I was introduced to another individual to try to work the deal.

I just wanted to express how I was made to feel during that conversation. I felt somewhat belittled, and like I didn't know anything. I was very uncomfortable and now wish that I simply walked out instead of listening to this man throwing out numbers like they were going out of style; I wish I simply had been told that the car couldn't be sold at a price that I was asking. This would have been a much better way to deal with me as an individual, and to many other people that I know. I felt like I was being treated as an idiot, no matter how kindly the words were put from time to time with compliments thrown haphazardly.

As a general rule, XXXXXXXXXXX has always treated me well. Back when I bought my Honda, I was impressed. This is the main reason I came back and considered making a purchase from you. It also helps that you had a vehicle that I really liked as well. However, after my experience last night, I would prefer not to come physically back into the dealership at all. In fact, I won’t be. This is the reason for a written letter.

I wanted to send one message about what my final offer would be on a vehicle that I'm interested in. If this works out in the ensuing days, wonderful, if not, please do not contact me about working a different deal. I am simply not interested, and please don’t contact me about other future vehicles from your dealership.

[It in in this place that I put all the technical information about the car, and what I am willing to do].

If you find this to be agreeable, please feel free to contact me. If not, I would prefer not to be contacted now, or anytime in the future.

Sincerely,

Teachinfourth

Faxed today at 10:13 A.M.

A well written letter... U speak for all of us... In fact the letter is too good for them because we know car sales people can be ruthless... be wary that if they do apologize they still may not give u such a good deal... Save yourself the headache and fax that baby to the fleet mgr.,that's how we do it here in Cali.
Dealerships hate when the customer has done their homework and know the invoice prices... U can get one thru Consumer Reports Mag.. its worth the cost...

Great letter. Send it. it's well written.

I also agree with Kalei. I would send your spec's over to the fleet manager. What is the worst thing they could say?

I can't wait to hear the outcome! You are keeping me in suspense.

I'm so sorry! I honestly can't stand any salesperson on the entire planet. I'm not looking forward to buying my first vehicle all on my own. It's very intimidating. I tend to be too trusting. But on another note. I guess I didn't realize you lived so close to me as well. I'm a Utah girl through and through. Northern Utah that is....

And yes I love a good thunderstorm. My boys open up all the blinds in the house and we sit and enjoy the light show. If it's thundering at night I tend to get a little nervous.... My house that I lived in 10 years ago or so was struck by lightening. We had sold it just months before it happened..... Good thing we didn't live there at the time.

Kalei's Best Friend is right. CC it to corporate with contact information. In these times, they want to do EVERYTHING to keep you a loyal customer.

Next time, call me. I'm a lawyer's daughter. I would have loved to go in and talk to them on your behalf. :D Would have relished it actually.

My father taught me well!

Good for you! That has to feel good. Let us know what happens.

You are far too benevolent Mr. Z. I suppose I can understand it since you made one last push for that car...but honestly, I would have stuck it to them a bit more harsh. Your words were so kind that they might just perceive that letter as a compliment rather than a complaint. I hope they at least take the time to acknowledge your dissatisfaction.

I love that you came right back and continued to haggle! You did a good job telling them how you felt. I hope Mr. Floor Manager gets in trouble!
Let us know. And also, when you get the car, are you going to take us all for a ride?

Rachel - You may be a laywer's daughter... but I'm constantly told I should be a lawyer! ;D You and I would have had a hay day together!!!

Jason - You Rock! Keep up the good work; you deserve to be treated with total respect!

Great letter! I say send it and good riddance. Unless of course they want to lower the price...

Good for you! I hate dealing with car dealerships when purchasing a car. We've had good experiences with Carmax (no price negotiations) and eBay.

Good luck!

Whew! You go, Jason! Nicely done, and I feel that more things of this nature need to be done, rather than people just walking away annoyed and frustrated.

Go TF!

I hope you get what you want... including an apology.

My bet is that you hear from them either way!

Wow! Great letter! Good luck. I also HATE car shopping. I guess I would absolutely love it if money was no object.

We got very lucky last summer. We had an emergency... my dad had passed away and our current van would definitely NOT make one more trip out of state. We had literally 2 days to find a vehicle that would seat 7 and not cost an arm and a leg... and would actually get us there and back without having any time to get to know the vehicle.

Oh bleh. Car shopping... *shudder*.

I think your letter is perfect!

Let us know if you decide to go with the horse, that would be awesome. :D

Well done on the letter. And if you end up going to a different dealer, let me know. Splenda found one that does mostly Honda's. Some Suburu's. They go to auction, buy the lease turn in's, mark them up 500.00 bucks and that's the price. No dickering around.

Ask them if you can trade in your lawn mower, blender, hair dryer and your remote control for a car. If not than no deal.

I think I will save this letter for an outline the next time I have a similar experience. Nicely written.

Good for you for writing the letter. But I'm not sure why you are giving them another chance. Aren't car dealers a dime a dozen? Is it a tactic you are using? Hope it works out in your favor.

Thank you for the compliments on the house. You are right. Right now I'm feeling tired and overwhelmed with the task.
