The Visitor

Pin It I was sitting in my kitchen this morning reading up on blogs and such when I heard an odd out-of-place buzzing sound. Startled, I looked quickly around the room.

Out of nowhere swooped a fly.

I don’t know why.

This particular insect hadn’t been here before, and I started to wonder how it came to be in my home on a morning when the snow is falling in troves. I always leave for work in the early morning when it’s nearly dark out and freezing, and I return home again when it’s nearly dark and freezinger. In fact, I couldn’t recall having seen any flies outside for weeks, and yet here was this little guy coming from nowhere.

And why hadn’t I seen him before now?

Was this an early Christmas miracle? I thought. A reminder of something? Perhaps that summer—though seemingly gone—was still there, beneath the piled-up snow? An omen of sorts?

I began to wonder about this little bug as it landed on the ceiling and regarded me with its many-faceted eyes. For a time, I just sat and stared back, my mind spinning with the possibilities of how this little critter had come to join me for breakfast.

Then I sucked it up with the vacuum cleaner.

HA! (that is what people used to say before LOL)

I think my favorite line was, "I don't know why."

You make me laugh on a regular basis. Awesome.

Oh and I just mailed your Christmas card. But be warned, it is not exciting. At all. All of the people in the photo actually belong to me and I didn't make any of it up. *Sigh* I wish I was clever.

So in other words what you are really saying is "I don't know why I sucked up the fly...I guess it died".

Great laugh for the day, bummer for the fly though who probably thought he'd gotten a Christmas miracle of his own, only to face down the dreaded suck hose!

I think you'll understand why, but I'm glad the vacuum swallowed that fly...
Thanks for the good morning laugh.

The last thing I want to see is a spider crawling along on its journey or a irritant fly buzzing around inside my home just being annoying.

I don't think I have given them much thought, hey little buddies where did you come from....

I have but one rule, stay outside and live.

That is so karma! Yesterday, I was painting the man cave and a lady bug was stuck in the fresh paint. I would have felt sorry for it but hey it was in the paint that I just spent an hour putting on the wall so I ficked it out and painted over it's tracks.

G - Why?

L - I'll put it up on my kitchen 'Hall of Fame' board. You made the cut...

S - Well, sometimes a guy's gotta do what a guy's gotta do.

S - I don't even need to guess. It did.

N - Glad I was a good laugh for somebody today.

D - IF only insects would follow that simple rule...

B - At least you saved it though, right?

Amazing! I had the same experience recently excepting I didn't marvel like you. I sat and looked at that fat booger and went for the fly swatter. I chased it around the house declaring that it should DIE. I've swatted too many of those fat suckers all summer and the audacity that one should still exsist during the winter!!! Unheard of.....SPLAT! P.S. Creepy Crawlies have been known to escape vacummes.....much better to squish, maim, mutilate.....etc.

Good riddance, I say!

"I don't know why [she] swallowed a fly..."

Ok--you seriously crack me up. I thought you were going to catch the fly and give it a permanent home for a minute. I saw a fly buzzing around the cabin I was staying in down in TN and my first reaction was "where's the dang fly-swatter?"...NOT "what a healthy bug!" A vaccuum works, though. Good job, Jason.
