Media of the Week - Connecting

Updated: I apologize. I did not realize that YouTube blocked the video I uploaded...I could see it when I was logged in (thanks, Karen for pointing it out). I embedded a copy of the best version I could find (which looks like it was recorded on a betamax machine).

Sorry for the horrendous quality, but I suppose that it's far better than nothing...

There are certain things in life that make us smile.

They remind us that we are human, and share a common bond with others.

They are the things that bring us closer to the people around us—the strangers we pass on the street. You know, like the moment you shared when you came across someone reading the same Harry Potter book as yourself, and the borders as well as social norms seemed to come down and – just for a moment – you felt a kinship with that other person; someone you hadn’t known before.

For those who shared this particular moment with the rest of us a year or so back, it is one that brought us together; it made us smile, it made some of us cry, it reminded us all of the human element which we share with one another.

I would like to share it with you yet again…

If you are unclear about the video that Michael referenced – and if perhaps you actually live in a cave and have not yet seen it – I will provide it forthwith.

Thanks for connecting with me again this week; after all, that’s what life is all about.

I thought of Romans 8:16 when you said the following: They are the things that bring us closer to the people around us—the strangers we pass on the street. You know, like the moment you shared when you came across someone....

I smiled. And cried. And watched that episode probably 7 times before erasing it from my DVR. I love me some Jim and Pam.

This video still makes me smile - the original more than the Office. I was thinking of having my first graders do a parody in our program. Next year...

Who could forget that episode? It was epic. I'm not ashamed to say I cried, thrice.

Unfortunately, it looks like YouTube has blocked your video, but I know which scene you're talking about and I loved it. Only The Office could get away with adapting that entrance.

I still loved the Grand Rapids Media of the Week best of all. It literally stayed with me the entire week.
