Isn’t it customary to want what it is that we do not currently have?
The past few days have been a veritable heat wave for this time of year—students sporting shorts and t-shirts at school; then again, I guess some of them do that year round. The weather has been wonderful.
This morning I felt a longing for rain—or perhaps snow, something to reflect upon. I am not the biggest snow enthusiast there is; however, there is something calming and wonderful about seeing the large, crystalline flakes drifting from the heavens like manna.
I got ready for the day—after all, one never knows when they might have to run out for a bit, and it would be nice to have already showered. Since being dressed was not really a concern, I slipped back into comfortable pajamas. I moved quietly to the window, convinced that there would be neither rain nor snow, and yet I had a strange hope that there would be. I opened the blinds and found myself surprised as I was greeted with tiny, silvery, flakes drifting from a melancholy sky.
I sat and watched them for quite awhile. The flakes began to grow in size and started to multiply. Like cottonwood fluff carrying seeds bustling with new life. The soft flakes were soon joined by others, and a slight wind picked up, driving them like a pale rainstorm.
All is right with the world. All is new.

I also enjoyed that little gift from the heavens for the short time it lasted.
Funny the difference. Another day I would have agreed with you but the warm weather has started getting me itching to spend more time out with the four legged equines and standing out in the cold in my jammies this morning shivering as the window guy told us it wasn't a problem with our window but in fact a bigger problem (our roof) but easy to fix...which is why we have huge leak problems......I was wishing it was warmer outside. Then again, if I'd have gotten myself out of bed sooner and actually showered and got dressed instead of meeting the window guy in my jammies....being prepared I may have enjoyed the snow flakes a little more.
Then again, I'm not sure anyone would recognize me if I weren't in my slippers and jammies.......
I love when Calvin and Hobbes make an appearance on your blog. Sometimes a good storm is in need. It makes us thankful for the sunny days.
I'm tired of snow, you can come and get mine. It's free, you just have to transport it yourself. Oh and if you want to say, "But mamma, your snow is old!" Don't worry they're calling for another 3 inches on Sunday night.
Today feels like one of those stay in your PJ's, crawl back in into bed, and nestle yourself into the covers with a good book or flick, kind of days, doesn't it?
I missed Mother Nature's water display (probably because I slept until 9!), but I'm glad you recieved and enjoyed your wish.
I can remember 3 times that I have watched it snow, and there is nothing, really, NOTHING like that peaceful, serene feeling of calm that snow induces.
The folks in D.C. might be disagreeing with me right now, but for ME out HERE, it was MAGICAL.

Beautifully said. I however am a sunshine and palm tree girl. I fall into major depression if there is rain or gray skies, other than monsoons. Those are kind of cool.
I love Calvin&Hobbes <3
Amen
Also, where I work, on the second floor of the building, we have floor to ceiling windows. when there is a big fluffy snow storm (and no one is around to see me) I press my entire self against the glass and look up - imaginging I'm floating with the flakes.
hello there - it's been awhile. I've caught up on your life {past posts} - and no surprise you are still going strong...still it's good to see and hear your voice through your writing. We had a white rain here a few days ago. I had hoped we would have at least one more good snow. I, like Kathy, had a moment where I felt like I was floating among those flakes - we were watching from our apt. - and for some reason watching snow from the 8th floor was very different than watching it from the ground. I love white rain.
Wouldn't it be great if this meant the snow over here in VA was at an end for the year? ;)(Love it, but when they start taking away spring break I think I'm officially done.)
We have really enjoyed the novelty of 100-year-record-breaking snow accumulations here. I'll admit that by the middle of the second blizzard I was dreading the next round of shoveling, but we are back to enjoying it.
