A light dusting of snow covered the sidewalks this morning; crystalline flakes, light and silvery like slivers of shattered glass—and as light as Hawaiian shaved ice—covered my windshield. The sky overhead was still a dark bluish-black, but it reflected the early morning light of the city on the underside.
I slid into the driver’s seat of my car and fired up the ignition. The light of the headlights ignited the area in front of me, as I turned on the windshield wipers. The snow fluttered from the windows as I backed out; my headlights catching these silver splinters as they glistened and sparkled like glitter.
I smiled because—for just the tiniest of moments—these slivers of light made it feel like Christmas.

Merry Christmas!
Christmas spirit is sometimes hard to conjure for us adults, isn't it? Thank you.
As someone who will never have snow at my home, I've never been more jealous of snow. Merry Christmas! :)
Christmas is in the air....literally!
Ah the Christmas mood, hard to find but once you have it, it's there to stay.
Doesn't that feeling do amazing things to your heart?
I'm a tiny bit jealous, and emphasis on tiny. We have the tree up, all the gifts have been bought, but zero snow or even cold here. I am LOVING it for sure, but it doesn't feel like Christmas yet. I'm hoping for snow on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. And that is enough cold for the entire winter. We can try again next winter. Think I'll get my wish? Yeah, I didn't think so.
contrary to your previous reader, i have no trees up, no lights lit, but we do have frost and are expecting snow tonight. no worries... i'm still sipping on a hot beverage bathed in whipped cream and am PLANNING the lighting and decorating of the tree... it still fills me w christmas. :)
lovely capture.
and love the way you write.

love the imagery, both literal and visual... :)
For a minute, and it was a quick one, you had me liking snow. : )
I hate snow, but I love it at the same time. It really does feel like Christmas.
I love the sound of snow falling on a dark night, and I love the smell of cold as I shovel my driveway.
