Worth a Nook?

Recently I went to a bookstore. While there I was introduced to the newest invention in literary technology. I had to take a quick nook just to see what the hype was all about.

Heck, it's Tuesday, you know what to do...

Dang it! I needed something there. Why didn't you call me and ask if you could pick something up for me? ;) I've got two photog books my Dad recommended to me. Guess I'll have to go and get them myself......and while I'm there.......do YOU need anything from the ol' bookstore cuz I'm nice that way? :D

So, did u break down and buy one?

Can you read blogs on that thing? Because that is pretty much all I read.

I might buy one and put my scriptures on it so I can act like a scripture snob at church.

Tuesday = laundry day.

Was there something ELSE I was supposed to do today?

I thought that thing (actually the Amazon Kindle) was pretty dumb when I first saw one online. But then I saw one in real life and it's pretty cool. VERY light, as light or lighter to hold than an actual book, and the reading is super easy on the eyes (it's not lit up, like you'd think). So I left with a much better impression of it than I thought I would. But I agree--there is something about holding a book and turning the pages that I love and would never give up.

My co-worker has the Kindle and LOVES it! She purchased one two weeks ago and still can't stop talking about it.

So, did you buy a Nook? I'd love one, but don't even have money for a cranny! :(

A nook doesn't feel or smell like a book, does it? Since I do most of my reading in bed, while falling asleep, would it break my nose when it hits my sleeping face?

I agree with Cheeseboy and Omgirl, I would only read blogs and I like the feel of turning the page. The smell of the book is good too.

However we do need to stop wasting trees.....

but I do love new technology....

but I don't know what else to say.

I'm with Cheeseboy, lately all I've been doing is reading blogs and my BlackBerry doesn't allow for commenting or editing my own blogs due to the java or whatever.

R - I guess I'm just selfish like that. It's what I do. ;)

C - I did not end up buying one…I couldn't bring myself to do it - even though it was pretty cool.

C -I don't think that's possible, at least it wasn't one of her selling points when explaining everything about it.

T - Holy Hannah, girl…get with the program! I came home and my laundry still wasn't done.

O - The $250 price tag might also be a deterrent, as well as the cost of downloading a book.

A - I'm with you there; I think I'd rather spend the money on something for my camera (new lens, perhaps?) and let my book fetish be taken care of by the public (or my school's) library.

C - Unfortunately, it doesn't. I am thinking that your face would be bruised from occasional 'sleep slams' in the night.

J - It's kind of a mixed bag, isn't it? Choices, choices…

A - I think one could buy the new iPad and could fake themselves out, it's a bit bigger than a Nook, and a bit pricier, but it can sure do a heck of a lot more…then again, the display on it was kind of cool.

Alas, I'm old-fashioned and I love books too much. I am also too afraid to get one of these read-on-the-go things...like giving those airplane miniature wines to an alcoholic ;-)

O - I'm with you on the 'real book' thing. Granted, the Nook was pretty cool, but I don't think it will ever really replace the feeling of reading with a real book in your hands.

actually, the Nook was very tempting when I went to upgrade my Kindle. I figured as a first gen, it might end up having some little issues that needed working out.

Ebook readers are pretty cool, but the thought of having to repurchase all of my books in digital format just makes it too pricey for me.

Our schools are starting to offer digital textbooks, but only at a verrrry slight discount. If it were a much larger discount, an ebook reader would totally be worth it though. Maybe someday.
