I love music.
It’s no secret, really.
Yet, there’s something about certain songs that seem to make you feel a bit more uplifted. You feel that the world is a better place. You find yourself scrolling back to those particular songs and listening to them a few times in a row.
Yeah, you know the music I’m talking about.
Well, this is your chance to share it with the rest of us. You know, that one song which does it for you; every time that the words and music intertwine and give you a feeling of invincibility…after listening to it you feel that you could run for a thousand miles, fly to the tops of the mountains, and pretty much save the world.
Yeah, THAT’S the song I’m talking about.
Below, I’ve created a playlist.
I’d love to add your favorite upbeat, uplifting, up-stirring, and upstanding song to the list.
So that is it...just leave a comment of 'that song' and I'll add it to the playlist.
What was that? You'd like to add this playlist to your blog? Well, if you'd like to, you can snag the code to do so. I tried to put the code in my post, but every time I try, it embeds the player - and I’d rather not have the code in the mess it looks like here.
Yeah, I’m all about aesthetics.
I started off the playlist with a few of my own...oh, and since I do have a few younger readers, I will do my best to find an edited version of your song (if it is needed and is available). I'd really like to include the music that inspires you, but I do want to keep it all PG as well.
Thanks for understanding...

You prolly won't add mine or if you do, you'll need the edited version but:
Lose Yourself by Eminem
{yeah I said Eminem - sue me : ) }
I agree with you on how music can move you.
Music is a huge part of my life as well.
I don't like all of those songs. But I do LOVE that New Radicals song. One of the only songs that I know how to play on my bass guitar.
Vacation by the Go-Gos. Just the first few beats immediately transport me back to a happy place and time.
Am I missing something. I don't see a playlist. Man! And I was looking forward to being uplifted while at work. Will check back... while I consider my song.
You've already got a pretty good list going.
(I keep trying to hate Katy Perry, but it's just so hard.)
One of my very favorite happy songs is Shiny Happy People by REM.
Modest Mouse- Float On.
my all time favorite "happy song" is a little stupid - but it makes me smile EVERY time.
The Game of Life - by Scribble Monsters :)
oh, and I linked up to your Joey posts in a post earlier this week... because more people need Joey in their lives (okay, and because it was funny)
OoO...good, thought provoking question since there's SOOO many good songs out there. How to narrow down to one.
There's...Reach by Gloria Estafan...naw..
or...One Step Closer by Linkin Park...naw
or...Change Your Mind by Sister Hazel..maybe..
I choose Voice of Truth by Casting Crowns as my Rah Rah Anthem.
Excellent list...
When I feel sad ~ "Breathe" by Anna Nalick
When I need to move ~ "Feel Good, inc" By the Gorillaz
When I'm feeling rebellious ~ anything by Green Day
When I want to sing along, loud ~ "Vengeance is Sleeping" by Neko Case
I'll stop there, unless you need more. =)
I have SO many songs that fall into this category, but my more recent ones would have to be: "The Cave" by Mumford & Sons, "1901" by Phoenix, "Viva La Vida" by Coldplay, "Hallelujah" by Paramore, "Ours" by The Bravery, etc, etc, etc! You pick the best to put on the playlist. I trust your judgement. :)
I think I've done a pretty good job of finding your favorite songs so far...some of them weren't available for linking purposes, and I found an edited version of one or two of them. I'll add them as I can.
Thanks, guys!
You have some really good tuneage on there. Some I would even think of that I really like. I've never heard that Green Day Oasis mix but I like it.
Three songs that come to mind for me are TIny Dancer - Elton John, Summer of '69 - Bryan Adams and Time of Your Life - Green Day
I love Green Day.
"Hey Soul Sister" by Train
"Stand" by REM
Anything by the B52's before 1989, especially "Rock Lobster".
"One Step Beyond" by Madness
"Last Christmas" by Wham! (ha ha, just kidding. Although everyone in my family knows all the words, which is rather scary. Please don't add this to your playlist. You will lose readers.)
Seriously? There are just too many to name, but nothing makes one feel good like a song that can be sung along with...so, my classic choices for such songs would be:
Meatloaf - Paradise by the Dashboard Light
Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
Psssst - I love Green Day too.
So many to choose from and some have already been named, but TODAY I would add;
Elton John's "Crocodile Rock"
Alphaville's "Forever Young"
Pet Shop Boys "Go West"
Tomorrow they may be entirely different.
Lately I've been listening to:
Vampire Weekend
Phoenix
Passion Pit
But I always like to go back to:
The Smiths
The Jam
If I'm feeling truly nostalgic:
James Taylor
Simon and Garfunkle
Cat Stevens
I gotta tell you that I LOVE Taio Cruz's Dynamite.
That is definately my turn it up, rock out in the car song!
Oh Jason...you know i could probably list a hundred songs that move, since I literally pretend I am in a music video every day of my life :) Right now I would say Natasha Beddingfield's "Strip Me", "Take My Picture" by Filter, "Fix You" by Coldplay, Oh "Dog Days Are Over" by Florence and the Machines (that's probably number one right now :), "Forget You" (the edited version of the new single by CeeLo, but I actually love the Glee cast version sung by Gwenyth Paltrow, "Waiting for the End" by Linkin Park, "Super Massive Black Hole" by Muse...actually most anything by Muse. "This to Shall Pass" from OK Go, "Shut up and Let me Go" by the Ting Tings, "Kings and Queens" by 30 seconds to Mars, "Empire State of Mind" by Jay-Z and Alicia Keys, "Marry You" by Bruno Mars or the Glee Cast, "Jar of Hearts" by Christina Perri...I'm guessing you can see that I have a few that drive me :) Miss ya big bro!
Make Do: What song would you recommend as your 'get me up and go' song?
Get me up and go?
I can bring the fire.
Listen to it, let me know...
Glad to hook up again. Followed you over from "t"
Oh and I totally forgot to add my theme song "California Girls" by Katy Perry and basically anything from One Republic...especially "Good Life" :)
SO many awesome songs are already on there! I'm going to have to defer to one of my first ever makes-me-wanna-dance songs: Ask by The Smiths.
Shania Twain - Up
You were right - Kirst left you a huge list! Lately I have been listening to wallow music. But I did think of one that inspires me every time I hear it. You're going to laugh.... from "Mulan" - "I'll Make a Man Out of You". I just have to substitute "Woman". :P Oh, and then, there is something about - "Secrets" by OneRepublic that really moves me to crank up the volume.
It's cheezy, but I love "Friday I'm in Love" by the Cure. I also love Lovesong by the Cure also.
Uplifing, upbeat, upstirring and upstanding..."Dream Big" by Ryan Shupe and The Rubberband Band.
Oh man - I could go on and on and on all day long.
Try Again - Keane
My Shadow - Keane
Two very inspiring songs.
Oh man....this just totally verifies how OLD I am. I don't know hardly ANY of those songs.
I know...you want to throw a noose around my neck, but I listen to mostly country songs.
How about "Whiskey for my Men and Beer for my Horses." (tee, hee)
toby keith and willie nelson unless you need to know.
Right now? "Hey Soul Sister" by Train. Whenever it comes on, I think of driving around with the kids and having them sing it at the top of their lungs. Ben knows ever word. It is pretty awesome. (And I know it is already on the list, but I wanted to get my comment in.)
I can't wait to take a listen to all of these songs tomorrow. I've got a 10K to run in a few weeks and I could use some great songs to distract me while I train. Thanks Jason friend!
Hello. This is my first time commenting, reading or anything else. I got your link from Single Dad Laughing.
Ok, let me think. Most of my stuff is classic rock. And most of that is Billy Idol. (That man is concentrated awesome.)
But most of his stuff has the same subject matter as You Shook Me All Night Long by AC/DC.
So I'm gonna go with Raise Your Glass by P!nk. She's a rockstar in my mind, even though her iTunes genre is pop. If you're feeling generous towards me you could also put in Back in Black by AC/DC. And I Love Rock 'N Roll by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.
Well, if I can leave more than one, today I heard "Unwritten" and forgot how much I love that song.
Alright, I've been hesitant to put these up because they are kind of girly/bitter, but I don't mean them like that, I promise. And I couldn't pick just one "get me up and go" song.
Here goes:
"Defying Gravity" from Wicked-Glee Version
"Hey Soul Sister" Glee version
"Marry You" by Bruno Mars or sung by Glee
"Forget You" by Cee Lo or Glee
"Bust the Windows" from Glee
Ok, so basically all the songs I like are from Glee and I can't help that- they just pick good songs. :) I've heard them all before but they just became more popular when Glee sang them
My Get up and Get Going song is Vampire Weekend's "Giving up the Gun". There is a drum fill in there that just makes me want to conquer the world.
Okay, I've added all of those that I could find on the site...and even uploaded a few of them that I had.
Keep 'em coming, guys!
Rolling in the Deep by Adele
Loving her song right now....
P.S. You can't go wrong with Journey's:
Wheel in the Sky
Anyway You Want It
Seperate Words (my absolute fav. Try getting me to stop dancing when this one comes on....)
And last but not least. Let's see if you have some guts to put up some country. :D Keith Urban's, I Told You So
I couldn't resist coming back to check out the playlist - AWESOME!
I started thinking that you can't have a feel-good-music list and not include Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and Gary Go's "Wonderful".
Please?
Rachel & Nuttley - I added in most of what you guys wanted.
Rachel, I did have to draw the line at Keith Urban. I do have standards, you know...
Standards. A fine word to hide behind. Wimp. ;)
Thank you!!
1. We Are Okay – Joshua Radin
2. Faster – Matt Nathanson
3. Umbrella – Punk Goes Crunk (It's a cover, but I prefer it over the Rihanna version)
So I know this is the first comment on this in a while...but I couldn't resist. :)
Two of my top faves:
Smile - Uncle Kracker
Bad Day - David Powter (the only one by him I listen to...but it's a great one)
Then some others:
Anything by E.S. Posthumus (intrumentals only)
Haven't Met You Yet - Michael Buble
Love Story - The Vitamin Strings
Colortones - Ryan Farish
Rhapsody in Blue - George Gershwin (this one never fails to put a smile on my face, especially after watching Fantasia 2000's version)
...And thanks so much for having standards concerning us younger readers. :)
Laurie - I've added the tunes you requested...
