I’m wandering the city with no idea where I am headed to most of the time. I walked Broadway—a smorgasbord of sights, sounds, and smells; some of them pleasant—others of them not so much.
In a city of anonymity where I am simply another face in the nameless crowd.
Don’t talk, smile, or make eye contact with anyone—and (heaven forbid) look too interested, otherwise you won’t blend in.
Madison Square Park.
I had to stop. I had to rest. I had to sit down someplace.
I was—quite simply—worn out.
From the makeshift stage a few lengths away beyond the bushes, the music drifted to me intermixed with the heavy sounds and bustle of the city thoroughfare as the sun glinted off of the nearby buildings. This all seemed so surreal…so diametrically opposed to my regular life—
Such a range of individuals; of styles, looks, mannerisms, age differences, this is a whole other life…and this city supports them all.
My back hurts, too…but I’m loving every single minute of it.

How long are you in New York? I liked your post & how well you described everything. It is a culture shock I am sure from good ol' Spokane where everyone smiles & says hi...to people just going about their ways...
I am jealous! All of that walking and sight seeing! I have been walking and running a little, but the sights aren't nothing like yours. Wish I was there!
Cool! It feels like I'm there too! Walking is good for your back are you carrying too much stuff? Pictures please....
New York, what a great place to visit, don't think I would want to live there. But I'm surprized that you didn't include a photo with the post.
I'd love to visit NYC sometime while Y&L still live there but to live in a city where you are discouraged from making eye contact, smiling or saying hello? Uh....no. Sorry you are getting sore but I am sure all of the tons of photos you are taking will be worth it in the end. What an experience....I am happy you were able to squeeze this trip in.
Glad you're loving it.... super glad you are not Italian and that I know you would never in a million years pay to go on a helicopter ride around the Statue of Liberty...
B - Until Tuesday morning...we still have a few places to go and a few things to see.
K - It's crazy! Some of the things I've seen (and smelled) aren't the greatest, but some of them are AMAZING as well; be assured, I will post about them in the next week.
K - Since my laptop takes so long to upload photos (they are too big with my new camera) I probably won't upload too many until I get home...I will do so after that, deal?
As for the hurting back...too much walking and carrying a backpack full of stuff...yeah, too much.
M - Like I said, the photos take too long to upload and I have too many to go through at this point, I'd much rather go through some adventures rather than upload photos of them, you know? Writing about an experience on the subway while I am waiting is one thing (if it's short) and typing it up quickly is one thing, taking notes down but not writing it up until I get back is something entirely different.
Good things come to those who wait.
S - It is awesome; I am so glad that I came out here.
J - I won't pretend that I understand your comment because I don't; I guess I am just a little dense today...I've been out for a long time.
You are on my dream vacation! Great picture. Have fun!
You added a picture to the post - now I know you're really there. ;)
