I Heart Faces - Back to School

I am a teacher.

Every year I do home visits to each of my students.

The purpose of these visits are not only to meet my students, but to drop off a few items to get to know them a little bit better before the school year starts.

Usually I do these during the dog-days-sweltering-heat-when-you-shouldn’t-be-out-wearing-a-tie-because-it’s-hot-enough-to-melt-lead part of the year, and not very enjoyable to be honest…but how can one not relish the thrill that comes when your up-and-coming students see you waiting out on their front doorstep and shriek like they’re at a Justin Bieber concert?

For some of them it’s like Christmas come early.

Of course, it’s an experience like THIS that make it the mixed bag that just kind of makes you…well, just laugh.

Like I said, I am a teacher.

What a great thing you are doing. I've never heard of a teacher making home visits before school starts. What an exceptional way to start off the year!

I like that. Teachers have incredible impact on their students life, specially the younger ones.

I'm interested...how do the parents feel about this? I really like this idea, I'm just intrigued how your other faculty members or parents typically feel!

Oh my goodness...I seriously love what you do! You are an AMAZING teacher! (Please come to Oklahoma?) There are so few men teachers here, but every year I would try to make sure my sons had a male teacher. At their old school, there were NONE. But once we moved here 8 years ago, they were able to have a male teacher for 3 years in a row! I just think there is a HUGE shortage of male teachers. I'm so glad you are one of them and that you LOVE your job! On behalf of a mom with 2 boys (now 4, but that's a different story), I wish I could HUG your neck and tell you thank you in person!

Oh, and the photo is pretty SMASHING as well! LOL

I love that you do this. You are making a difference in the world. One student at a time.
Thank you.

My mom was a teacher when I was a child and I still remember the looks of surprise and adoration she would get when we would meet one of her students at a store.

That is a great thing you are doing - it does set the standard for the year!

And of course, now your home visits are legendary in your school community so you can never, ever stop them!

I wish I could be a fly on the wall when the moms are comparing notes about your visits!

I hope your colleagues love you as much as the kids and their families do. You set the bar mighty high, Mr. Z. Somehow I believe your disarming humor must win them over.

I am so impressed that you go and meet up with your students before school! Now, if you lived in Northern Canada it would not be sweltering heat at that time (just a huge hint... lol)

I really love this photo. The little boy looks truly thrilled!

I LOVE this! I am a former public school teacher, but now a homeschooling mom. I really appreciate you taking the time to personally go to each student's homes. It is a lost art.

She was waiting for her and the smile on her face was price less. Wish I would have gotten a photo of it. Love this Photo!!!!! I just want to give a big thank you to all the teachers that go the extra mile Thank you Thank you and Thank you!!!!!

You are officially the best teacher ever!!!
I have never known of a teacher who does this. That is so personal and so neat. How could a kid not feel good going into your classroom, knowing that you care that much!

I am still amazed at your home visits. And I kinda bragged about them the other day when the discussion of teachers came up!
