Weekly Kodachrome - Serving with Style

The Saturday afternoon sun dappled the ground of the backyard of the wedding reception as I chatted with an old friend I hadn’t seen in years. As we reminisced about years past and the pathways our lives had taken over the more recent days, the boy in the white shirt approached with a slice of cake perched on the clear, plastic plate.

“Would you like a some cake?” he asked.

I broke from my conversation, thanking him for it, commenting that a British accent would probably have been more appropriate—considering the look of seriousness on his face.

The boy cocked his head to one side, nodded curtly, and clicked his heels together as he added in the appropriate accent.

“Would you like a slice of cake, my good sir?”

I grinned.

“Indeed, I would,” I responded.

With this he extended the plate in his hand. I took it gracefully as he went off amongst the other guests, delivering additional wedges of cake he snagged from the nearby refreshment table—a job that nobody had asked him to do—using his English accent the entire time.

As I stood and watched him, I found myself wishing that he were not just a third grader - but a fifth; also that he went to my school...after all, I had a feeling he’d make a wonderful Joey.

That is some amazing frosting! How funny that he used his British accent. Unless he was actually British that is.

Ah yes, he seems to be the type one could get a chuckle from every now and then.

He actually looks rather British. Not that I know what defines a British look but whatever it is, he has it.

He is so cute : ) And the cake looks yummy. Mmmmmmmmmmm.

I bet you were the coolest announcer ever. I am reading your post beneath this and wishing you could have been my teacher. I had a mean male teacher in 6th grade. I guess he wasn't too mean. He never smiled though. I don't like non smilers.

You truly bring out the best in kids. Did he really have the fork stuck in the cake?

I could almost hear his voice as you recounted your conversation. :-) What a charmer! Sounds as if Joey might have some stiff competition. :-) I love it when kids allow us glimpses into their amazing personalities.

Great shot, by the way... I forgot to add that in my first comment... lol... You've captured his serious look marvelously... not to mention the cake looks like it was delicious. :-)

Hey! That "someone" you were talking to when you took that photo of the boy, just happens to be, the one and only... me! :) I came here to see if you posted pictures of the wedding. Kind of cool to get to see that pic. after watching you take it. Nice job! And I have to agree... that kid ROCKED - and would make an amazing Joey! Do these Joey's just gravitate to you, or what???
PS. Do you mind if I snag a few pic's from the wedding? :D
Thanks a million... :)
