SCENE 1, INTERIOR. AFTERNOON. CLASSROOM. The teacher has released his students for the day; as he walks to the front of the room and starts to get ready for the next week, he notices fifth grade boy lingering behind in the classroom.
JOEY: Mr. Z, I’m sorry about talking so much in class today. I know why you sent me to Australia .
TEACHER: Well, you do know that I still like you, right?
JOEY: Yeah.
[Pause]
TEACHER: You know, deep in my heart I have a little room that has the name ‘Joey’ engraved on the door.
JOEY: Really?
TEACHER: Yep, I keep it locked.
[Pause]
JOEY: Yeah, you have to contain that ferocious and dangerous monster that’s in there, right?
TEACHER: Well, I have to keep myself safe somehow…
[Pause]
JOEY: You better add some extra locks.
[Fade to black]

whoa, teacher beware! or joey beware?
:-)
that is just the sweetest story.
I have to tell you, your stories of Joey kinda make me think of one of my grandkids...he is 10, Matthew's son.
He is a complex child....He is bigger then life and "ferocious" and sometimes people might think they need to keep him under lock and key
but..he has soooo much to offer
He is defintely in a little room in my heart..
I love your Joey stories. Almost makes me wish I was back in the classroom.
:) Ya ol' softy!!
It's very important for a child to know that his teacher loves him. Joey knows and seems to respect that.
However, I'd still keep that door locked!
Awww...Joey...
I think a lot of us have that little room in our heart...
Thanks for sharing these little moments.
Well at least he's honest.
Well at least he's honest.
You gotta love Joey for always bringing a smile to your face especially after a hard day.
That's a funny boy!
