Snowed In

Pin It I’m currently up north of Tremonton, Utah. I came up on Friday night with my friend, Verlene, to visit my good friend (and her brother), Hazen, along with his family. We’ve been having a fun time up here with the Sedgwicks, but you can imagine my surprise when Hazen told me to look outside this morning and I saw this:

Well, we ended up shoveling for several hours just to clear the driveway and it wasn’t until later this evening that we’ve seen any sign of snowplows. The roads up here are pretty bad (neighbors couldn’t get back to their houses once they’d left) so Verlene and I decided to not try to venture out on the freeway and other roads until tomorrow. Hazen and I decided to make the best of it, and we had a snowball fight with his two oldest boys and then made “snow ice cream.” The kids loved it though it tasted a lot more like iced milk to tell you the truth.

I hadn’t expected the weather to be so terrible, but we’re going to make the best of it. Looks like I won’t be back in time for “LOST” night after all…sorry guys.

What an unexpected adventure. I'm so glad that others know of the "snow ice cream." My sister and I always use to make it. It has been a while since I have made it, and it probably isn't as good as it use to be! :)

From the looks of things on this end and knowing that it is worse up where you are at...I doubt you are getting out anytime soon! Enjoy your impromptu extended vacation :)
For some more fun tomorrow you could make a snow castle, complete with icicle towers...it makes it look very "castleish" according to my little ones.

Funny, I just made snowcream w/my Kindergarten. Try this- 1 can evaporated milk (NOT condensed), 1 cup sugar, 1 tsp. vanilla, 1 big bowl of snow. Mix well and serve. Got it from the "Friend".

Sounds like a fun trip! You have 4- wheel drive on that vehicle, right?

Jewels,

The creamage was okay...but I'd take Red Rock Creamery over it any day!

Lord of Summer,

It was AMAZING! I felt a bit of trepidation at the thought of driving in that stuff yesterday. Luckily, today the roads were MUCH better! I didn't make the castle because Hazen went to work and Tanner and Braden had to go to school...ah well.

Nettle,

Hmmm...maybe that recipe would be better (we used regular milk) and it was somewhat lacking to tell you the truth...

Gerb,

I do have the 4-wheel drive but driving on an interstate covered in all of that isn't my idea of a swell time...
