Writing update - The book…

Pin It Well, I have realized that I still have a long way to go with my story before I allow this thing to traverse into the halls of publication.

This realization came when I started to read it aloud to my class the other day. Whoa…does this story NOT flow well when read aloud! It amazes me just how much I tried to “bring the reader” into the story through detail, and this actually bogged down the flow of the thing altogether.

So, what does this mean? Well, for starters it entails a major rewrite of the story, and the cutting out of a lot of unneeded text. Nip here, tuck there, flesh it out a little in a few spots as well.

Final prognosis? The patient is doing well, but is in for some serious rehab…

Love the photos...I'm still laughing out loud at them! Nip and tuck, eh? Sounds awfully painful!

Well nice that you had a trial run. Now get back to work!!! And remember you are your own worse critic! You will do fine!

Thumbelina announced yesterday that "Mr. Z is reading us a book he wrote!" And ElemenoB said, "He came right out and told you that?! Are you allowed to tell people?!" They say it's a good one - and they are pretty harsh critics.

Take that as a good sign.

My husband use to work for the guy who wrote this book.

http://www.amazon.com/Landlord-Ken-Merrell/dp/0967851009/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1210747756&sr=1-8

My husband did the cover art. The author self published. Spent TONS of $$ and time. Got it into Walmart for a while. It is the publisher who makes the majority of the $$. It takes MAJOR amounts of publicity to sell enough to make a profit. It can be done though. Ken (the author) basically quit everything for a year and a half and just pushed his book. Went nearly bankrupt.

If you go with a company (like the one your sis pointed out) you will make a LOT less but you won't go bankrupt either. If it's good enough (and decent subject matter) Deseret Book can be a goldmine if you can get them to distribute it.

One more thing to my own personal novel here... Barnes and Noble use to have a self publishing program too. A "print on demand" type system. Check it out and see if they're still doing it.

Good Luck! I always love a good book!

Anonymous - Perhaps a little Botox too..

Kris - Yeah. A summer of writing will help it immensely! I still plan to go ahead...just make it better.

Gerb - I have a feeling that they really like the author too. There's probably no bias whatsoever.

Shoe - Not quite ready for that yet...

Dani - Once I sit down and do it I know that I'll be able to.

Emmy - Lots of work though, right?

Farscaper - I checked out the site. His book does look interesting. I don't think I'm going to go Chapter 11 for mine though.
