Makes Me Smile #1 - Goofy Little Boys

There are days in which I am at school and start to feel a bit down. I feel burdened by the work that lies before me. It can be overwhelming some days being in a Title 1 school with the expectations, remediation, accommodations, and assessments. There are some days I find myself slipping into a veritable pool of despair gazing at the mountains of work in front of me and wondering just how in the world it will all get finished.

But then I get a student like this:

When my students come up and smile in the early morning – excited for a new day of school, when they tell me that they love being in my class, or simply give me a hug in the lunchroom – even the big sixth graders – all of that work doesn’t seem quite so bad.

Goofy little boys make me smile.

Goofy little boys make me smile, too.

You're doing a great job. The hugs and smiles are proof of that.

I can't even imagine how tough being a teacher can be. You are obviously doing it and doing it well hence the smiles and hugs. The shot of little guy makes me smile too.

That is sweet! And I love the picture.
Kids definately have a way of making your day brighter - a hug will do it every time!!

They make me smile too. I'm glad they have you as an influence in their lives. You were once a goofy little boy too I am betting : )

How could that face NOT make you smile?!
I hope you can dig out from under the mountain soon. Keep smiling, TF!

I love that you are there and you are making a difference. I work in many Title I schools in the city. Heartbreaking. Too many of their home lives are sad beyond belief.

You've hit on the exact reason that teaching is worth while.

Magic happens in the lunchroom

I am ONE HUNDRED PERCENT certain that teachers are the most underpaid and underappreciated people on the planet.

Plus, if goofy boys make you smile, I should seriously ship you my six-year-old son for the weekend. He'll keep you in stiches for days.

I love teachers like you who (and my son's kinder teacher) embrace my son, goofiness and all. There aren't many out there who do, so way to go!!!

Just keep swimming in that pool of despair until you find the shore. It will eventually present itself and you'll find what great things await you on dry land. :) Ok, enough of the deep thinking. Time for bed.

This is why you are such a good teacher, you find the happiness in what you do.

Kids have a way of doing that. Lucky they have a teacher like you to appreciate their goofiness!

Goofy little boys make me smile too. I was a cub scout den leader for 3 years and no matter how tired I was when I arrived at our weekly den meetings, every time I left it was with a spring in my step and a smile on my face. Their enthusiasm and humor were infectious and I loved it. They always said hilarious things. Early on I was trying to restore order and called out "Gentlemen!" to which they replied, "Awww...don't call us Gentlemen, call us...call us DUDES". I laughed and said that one did not work for me...but we met halfway and agreed upon "Gentledudes". It was our code word from then on, and I only had to say it quietly at den and pack meetings to pull my little group back together and refocus attention on the matter at hand. :-)
