Bring it on

Pin It One might argue that it is time to turn on the AC in your home when you rise from your leather couch and you hear a sound which is reminiscent of a plunger being unplunged after a lavatory ‘emergency.’ One also might add that when you go outside and it definitely feels cooler than inside it would be time to turn on that lovely air conditioning unit.

However, I had made a vow not turn on the AC until the 4th of July, and I would be strong. After all, what are a few more degrees of heat? Last night it only got up to 87 degrees and I managed that well enough.

Bring it on, summer. I thought to myself. I can handle whatever it is that you are so intent on dishing out.

Well, it’s now after 11:00 PM and I am lying on my bed, realizing that, if I wanted to, I could probably bake cookies while I sleep…if I could fall asleep.

I am not going to give in. I can do this. I can handle whatever…

Hmmmm…

Did I say the 4th of July? I must have been mistaken, I’m positive now that I had said the 1st.

Before we had kids we could easily tolerate temps in the 80's as long as we had a fan on moving that air around. I learned to carry a LARGE cup of ice water around with me and I was fine.

Then the babies came. I could not sit back and watch their little cheeks turn so red at much lower temps than I was bothered by. They were also still on hospital equipment (my first ones) when I laid down the law. We were getting a window a/c unit no matter what it cost.

(after a recent move to a new place) Now we're SPOILED to have an entire house a/c. We've been running it for quite some time already. Know what? Our house electic bill is exactly the same and maybe a bit lower than at the house 1/2 this size. It blows my mind.

(.... a/c gremlin ... )
Turn on your a/c... you'll like it. Come on! It won't cost much..

OK today it was 108! We have a swamp cooler! Its always warm in our house. But I just know it is alot cooler inside then out. Bring it on! I will be spoiled if I ever have a real A/C.

I have to admit I used A/C exclusively when I lived in Washington and was shocked when everyone down here had something they called a swamp cooler (which sounds straight off the bayou and about as effective). I actually like the cooler better than the A/C. And as far as the July 4 ruling? If I am hot I am not going to have myself be uncomfortable just so I can save a buck or two.

You know, I'm pretty sure your old room is still in the upper 80s. Maybe it's just 'cause you're hot. Or maybe it's because we have a defunct air conditioner and you didn't turn yours on...either way :)

So, I have a doc appt on Thurs. Call me when you get back eh?

In Brazil homes don't even have a/c. One hot summer night, my comp. and I couldn't sleep. She got up and douced herself with water and slept with the fan blowing on her, while I never could fall asleep. I tried her method one hot evening at Goblin Valley and it worked great!

i can only that the fourth cannot come soon enough for you...and a couple more fans attached to an a/c wouldn't hurt much either...

....and ditto for your classroom...

FS - I did it. The house felt much cooler today!

Kris - 108? Hmmm...maybe I won't come down to that area to visit after all...

Shoe - I love the SCs. Of course, my only experience with one was at the Stumm's old house.

Emmy - Yeah, that room was right next to...well, you-know-where. We'll have to hang when I return.

Nettle - Suki was spraying everyone on the hike which was nice. I kept thinking...I need to remember to do this on my next desert visit!

Jacs - Don't worry, on your next visit it will be a much "cooler" house...of course, the lights will make it look cooler too!

It was so hot the other day that Ringo actually collapsed outside (he's all black) and started panting like a dog. I went to go get him and put him on a wet towel and turned the fan on him with a bowl of ice in front of it to cool him off. My poor baby :( Crazy little bugger started whining to go back outside and he'd nearly had a friggin heat stroke!

What can I say? I love my little squicker-squee!
