The Christmas Card

Pin It I created quite a stir last year with a number of people.

I received emails, phone calls, as well as visits from those inquiring minds who just wanted to know exactly what was going on.

Such is the response when one creates a Christmas card with a fictional family—grateful for things which they don’t even have (for, as I said, they are fictional).

Let’s see…
  • My Mom freaked out.
  • My aunt yelled at me over the phone, dropping a few choice adjectives which I’ll not mention.
  • Several friends casually questioned me about what was going on.
  • I received email congrats from fellow bloggers.
  • A few acquaintances called and wanted to know why they hadn’t been invited to the wedding.
  • My friend, Jan, shook her head and blew out an exasperated sigh; then muttered, “Zimmerman” under her breath.
  • My Dad laughed.
  • My sister rolled her eyes but told me that it was funny anyhow.
Now I sit, on the threshold of this next Christmas holiday with building pressure. How in the world will I top a masterpiece card like this?

To be honest, I’m not quite sure just yet…

Whats wrong with a homemade family? I just want to know where is the cat?

Heh, yeah Roy was like "Wait...what?" and I just sighed and said, "That's Jason for you" when we got the card :P

I thought it was your sibling when I read the card. I get the joke now. I love it!! That is so something my husband would do. Don't worry, they're out there somewhere.

Now you can begin singing, "Somewhere, out there, love can see us through," ... O.K. Maybe not.

Don't even try to top that one.

That was awesome.

For Christmas, maybe your blogger friends should help you start that 'real' family. Then next year you send out the real thing.

Cari - Sometimes you just have to go for the joke, you know?

ME - Whoa...you've been in confusion for an entire year? Glad I could finally clear it all up.

Kris - Story of my life. As for cats...I'm allergic so it wouldn't have worked out.

Meem - I'm excited to see what yours is this year.

Bee - Glad your husband is so cool! I think that he and I would probably get along.

Gerb - Good point.

ST - I really don't want to be adopted at this point in my life...

Dad - Boy, I never knew you were so rich! You really need to float a bit-o-that-cash down this-a-way...

Jacs - If only they existed!

Thank goodness for an explanation. I know it probably annoyed you that so many were freaking out/wondering, but we do like to be posted on these things, if they are real! Either way, official family or no (we're all family anyway, big brother) we love you all the same. Mom says hello also and thanks for clearing it up.

As for topping that, good luck. I should have known, after the "twins" hoax. And the "blind people being able to drive" hoax. Yes I am the most gullible person you know.

But from now on, if and when you ever send a "real family" Christmas card, you're going to have to invite EVERYONE to the wedding, just to convince them that you're not making it up. And no fake weddings either!

Happy Holidays, you nut!

I agree with Kris...whats wrong with a homemade family? If I would have chosen the cat where would you have been?

Just when I think you cannot top your funny self, you send me the link to something like this. How in the world do I get on your Christmas card mailing list? I'm begging...

Speaking of, if you want to wait for the Christmas card to go up on the blog that is great. But if you want one in the mail, I would love to send it your way. Just need you to email me your address. But be warned, it is a plain Christmas card with real people and a simple Christmas message. I was excited about it before I saw your version. Now I know I am just plain boring.
